Witherspoon’s complex soundscapes, matched with surreal lyrics that crosses the boundries between dreams and nightmare, are Zachreen’s expressions that came to life after nearly 3 years of absences from the local underground scene in Kuala Lumpur. With this in mind, the quizzical of their debut E.P entitled ’Quote Me A Sonnet’ does make perfect sense. The entire member of this band has been around for nearly 10 years in the local underground scene spawning from various different types of genres and bands from Scorched Earth Policy, Nathrah, Tabaraka, Undead, Forget Me Not, MaybeONEday a.k.a Awaken, Panembrama and many others for the last decade.
Because of their tight relationships as highschool best friends they decided to make a comeback and decided to create something that could evoke the masses with Zachreen’s haunting lyrics and dreamy musical landscapes. The intricate shifts and delicate balance inherent in Witherspoon’s masterful music, hits emotional chords and affects the subconcious in unknown ways. Essentially reveals its sharp songwriting instinct and unfolding a distinct indie rock influence.
They unveil singular scenarios and refined tunes within the indie/alternative pop/post rock scene together with inspiration from graphic novels and movies like Heights, Wicker Park, The Dreamers, Match Point, 24 Hour Party, 9 Songs, S.L.C Punk, The Spinal Tap, Trainspotting, Eternal Sunshines O.T.S.M, Reality Bites, Tangled, Chasing Amy, Crazy Beautiful, Devil’s Advocate, If Anything Else, novels like Light In August, Catch 22, Dolores Clairborne, The Great Gatsby and also from bands of their generation like The Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Duran Duran, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Ride, The Verve, Silverchair, Jeff Buckley to recent favourites such as My Vitriol, KENT, Sigur Ros, Haven, Keane, Delays, Abandoned Pools, Placebo, Missy Higgins and many more.
The band is currently in their final mixing/mastering process of their debut E.P which set to release this August and its been nearly a year since their last show together before they took the time off they needed to write and record this upcoming E.P. The band is scheduled to play a number of shows soon after the release.
