Urbandub is widely known across the Philippines as the Sound of the Giant South, representing rock for the Visayas and Mindanao regions in particular. The band has three successful albums to show for it: BIRTH (2000), INFLUENCE (2003), and EMBRACE (2005).
The album INFLUENCE was Album of the Year at the NU107 Rock Awards in 2004, and the track "Soul Searching" won Song Of The Year at the same awards show in 2003. The videos “Come” (BIRTH) and “A New Tattoo” (INFLUENCE) were directed by Philippine independent film director Kris Villarino, who also shares the same Cebuano roots as Urbandub.
While the first two albums were released independently under Lighter Records, EMBRACE took the band to a wider audience through the help of EMI Music Philippines. Not known to tread too far from their independent roots, the band retained Lighter Records as their management group.
In 2005, Urbandub released EMBRACE with the single “Alert The Armory”, accompanied by a video directed by Lee Nadela of Slapshock fame. Three more videos by more established directors were released for “First of Summer” (by Marie Jamora), “Endless, A Silent Whisper” (by Marie Jamora) and their latest, “Frailty” (by Pancho Esquerra). Urbandub has been constantly reaching wider audiences through radio, TV and the Internet, gaining them international attention in neighboring territories such as Malaysia and Singapore to as far as the United States.
