With a handful of original songs, vocalist Yael, then a high school student, sought for another outlet for his music after the first band he was in folded up. Together with bassist Gosh and a bunch of other classmates, they formed Sponge Cola in 2002, and began making a name for themselves in and outside campus. Lineup changes within the year saw the entry of Chris on drums, and Armo taking over guitar duty.
From being underground favorites to eventually reaching the top of local charts, Sponge Cola have released an independently-produced EP (2003), and two studio albums (2004, 2006), and have been featured in numerous TV shows and music columns in their native Philippines. |
