About Radiostar (so far)

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

 Radiostar was formed in 2005 by Pot Amir (of the multi award-winning Soul R&B quartet Innuendo) and Mahfuz “Apuk”, a music graduate of Akademi Seni Kebangsaan. Their chance meeting was somewhat “arranged” by the best possible candidate there is, Apuk’s mother, one year earlier. Pot and his colleagues at MonsoonRain Sdn Bhd (a water-based media company) had a meeting with the CEO of Syarikat Air Terengganu (SATU) in 2004 when the P.A to the CEO was none other than Puan Kamariah, Apuk’s mother. From then onwards, Apuk’s family had become like family. To this day Pot insists that Radiostar is a band “united by way of the monsoon rain water of Terengganu”.

 The musical partnership was further exercised during corporate and social functions  while performing under the banner of a semi-cultural collective/troupe named “Tenggara Performers Club” throughout 2004/05. On the 31^st March 2006, the band Radiostar was launched by giving out “Radiostar” BottleBillboards™ (Plastic bottles filled with 600ml “Airdew” Alkaline Drinking water with “Radiostar” profile on the label) and performing to more than 500 friends, supporters and a few orphans on top of the UDA building in Bangsar Utama at an event called “Radiostar Undefined @ Tanchap Radiostar”. Radiostar is the first musical act in the world to use the Bottlebillboards™ concept and one of the few amongst Malaysian bands that refuse to perform at venues that sell alcohol.  On the 15th of December 2007, 1,000 copies of their debut EP "SATU" containing 7 songs were released under their own label, The Promised Clan (the label that launched VE and Ruffedge) and  was sold  out  (via selected  Indie  shops)  within 5 months.  Their follow-up  9-songed  EP "DUA"  was  released  on the 25th June  2008  after  Malaysia's  premier  music  magazine , ROTTW  gave  SATU  a  whopping 4-and-a-half  star  rating!

 Radiostar writes and sings about life on earth and beyond. Whenever the word "Cinta" is used in their songs, it is never meant for humans, but for The One True Immortal Love. Radiostar has had the opportunity to perform at diverse types of functions and venues. They tend to perform their own songs along with covers of Innuendo, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers. Most of the time, they choose to freestyle as a way to communicate with the crowd. Every “opening blues” is different from each other and is custom-made for each client and audience. They refuse to label their music, but upon excessive pestering would only confess that it is “Abstract Pop” or sometimes, “Jazz for the people”.
