History
History Circa: 1995 - 1997. Bert Balmes, Kim Disomangcop, Wynxtr Sahagun, Jeff Wong, Mark Boy, got together to form a group called by the names of (Plague, Conquer & Dominate, Satin Haze etc.) in the outskirts of San Beda College. Eventually Wynxtr & Jeff parted ways after their final gig at Club Dredd. Ronald eventually joined the band, thus Mud on Ice was born. The band had numerous gigs in Yosh Cafe, Music Museum, Fat Willy's. The band was given their first big break when they won the 1st Battle of the Bedan Bands in San Beda College 2001 (Rotaract Society). Early 2005, Mud on Ice went on hiatus, with members pursuing solo projects. Ryan Vincent Suzara joined M.O.I. to fill up the drummer position while Ronald Salvador shifted into guitar, thus forming the band’s solid repertoire of 3 lead guitars. Hence, Mud On Ice started doing some gigs with their new band lineup; and to name a few of these places where they showed their symphonic prowess; Maru Bar (After Shift Jam), Nightwish Bar, Malate, and most recently the RAKAZA event at Silver City mall near Tiendesitas, where they played with Radioactive Sago Project, Urbandub, SPY and other prominent rock bands.
Their Music
Their music can be described as a combination of heavy metal guitar riffs mixed with melodic vocals; and guitar solo accents, from its three lead guitar players, which defines the signature sound of the band. Their guitar playing is further influenced by distinguished guitarists such as Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, kirk Hammet, Cliff Burton (Bass), Marty Friedman, Jason Newsted (Bass) and many others. The collaboration of the three guitar players is like a sacred gathering in which 3 different styles merge into one; their influences manifested on the songs they’ve composed. A hint of blues, heavy metal, neo classical, funk, conventional, and rock takes form, enabling each of their unique guitar style influence the final outcome of the song. Life experiences, with shades of pain, suffering, deceit, indifference and overcoming them are some of the themes which can clearly be discerned from their songs. One of the band’s signature sound, which gives them the edge when playing together is when the guitars blend as one; harmonizing and complementing each other, playing different notes but on the same melodic scale which gives off an aura that reflects their inner feelings. This is further accentuated by the way the bass and drums blend with them, thus, giving off an orchestrated collaboration of instruments. This is how they play. This is what they want. This is Mud On Ice.
