Lunarin began with an act of betrayal. It began with the burden of a secret kept by three friends, a secret which they wanted hidden from the singer of a band they were all playing in at the time. Eventually the burden became too much to bear. The band fell apart and Lunarin took its place. Perhaps it was the circumstances that led to the band’s inception.
Perhaps it was more the onset of age and the realization that time was running out. Whatever the reasons were, the songs came and the band found itself exploring a sound that was tinged with melancholy, confusion and at times resignation. In the process of birthing the music, the trio grappled with questions of right and wrong; the revelation that there is a fine line between the truth and a lie; and, ultimately, that perhaps the world is neither fair nor unfair.
The trio’s brand of music has been described as moody and heavy. That is however only one facet of their sound. If one were to dwell into the music and pay attention to the nuances, one would discover that there is an emphasis on melody and an emphasis on the power of words. There is a belief in the power of stories, myths and legends and the acknowledgment that there are greater forces at work in the world around us and that we are imperfect and fallible. Even more surprisingly, one may discover within the music a hidden message that hope still exists amidst the confusion and the pain.
The band has completed their debut album, "The Chrysalis". This album completes a journey that the trio had undertaken which has spanned more than two years. The journey began with that act of betrayal. It ended when the truth behind it was found.
