what is something people don't expect about your band?
I guess the relationship we have between us in Monofone. Me (Hym) and Jules are newly-weds, Luke is Hym’s younger brother, and Kay has been Hym’s family friend since ages! So, yeah…we’re discussing of having the song, “We Are Family” to be the opening of our gigs….Hahahha…..I got to be kidding, right? I guess that helps with our government’s propaganda
What can people expect from your live shows?
Monofone promises a tantalizing performance that will rouse your spirits and touch your heart. It will have highs that refresh you, and pleasant lows that will calm you. All in all, the most important thing we want to showcase is our own passion for making great music.
Tell us about your music.
Monofone’s music is a blend of new generation rock profiling textured guitar and bass with full overdrive, supplemented with classical stroke of heart-provoking piano. A touch of falsetto vocals tunes our songs with a poignant feel.
In short, fresh and colourful on the outside, comforting and fulfilling in the inside. It should catch your eye but warm your heart.
Bio
The story begins with the band coming in 1st runner-up at power 98’s noted band competition, Powerjam 2005. Monofone was only 2 months old then. Their original, Sylvia, had been awarded "Most Favourite Song" as well. These was clearly stepping stones, an early blessings for a young band.
With fiery enthusiasm, the band challenged theselves to come up with pieces they could call their own; something they could brand as Monofone music. For it was all about intricacy. And there certainly isn’t anything mono about their sound. Despite being voted fans of epic groups and such as Placebo, Muse, The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros and Radiohead, the band is adamant on forging a name for themselves and creating a signature sound.
The band is fronted by hym, plays both piano and guitar. He had only begun singing when the band was born. And like the most inspired and inspiring front-men, Hym is determined to tak Monofone’s story to its next chapter in the hopes that more will follow suit. Jules joined the band much later, as a keyboard player but has since become a key player herself in Monofone’s search for their musical identity. Kay who has been sharing and making music with Hym for more than 10 years, come to getting his drumming skils honed for a performance, or in adding more life to their creation. Luke, who recently replaced Monofone’s previous bassist, does backing vocals whilst playing bass. The band is excited to have him join them on their journey down their yellow brick path.
Monofone is "spinning round and searching", as the opening lyrics of their original Out for last. There will always be the search for new platforms or performance and new realms of creativity.
