Kuala Lumpur-based indie pop five-piece Deserters are the hybrid of their diverse musical backgrounds and the best bits of your record collection, all sprinkled with a little attitude. Formed and fronted by Zack Yusof in 2006, this unlikely combination comes soaked to the bone with infectious, ramshackle noise pop complete with soaring melodies, poignant melancholia and planet-sized hooks. Had Teenage Fanclub hailed from Kuala Lumpur instead of Glasgow, they may well have sounded a little like Deserters: quietly cool, gloriously romantic, indie pop janglers with a pocketful of poetry and a headful of steam.
The band’s debut ep LAST CHANCE is avaliable now.

“…surely one of the rare exciting new bands to look out for.” - ricecooke.kerbau.com
“…setting the bar high with catchy hooks and jangly guitar choruses that had elements of Oasis and The Smiths, Deserters showed that being the newest kid on the block didn’t mean that they couldn’t pack a mean punch.” - Juice Magazine
“Bands such as Couple, Bittersweet, Lucy In The Loo, Free Love, Muck and Deserters have been the scene’s outstanding bands through the months and they are not making any apologies for writing music with an accessible and infectious edge.’ - StarTwo, The Star Malaysia
