Bio
This is a story about ambition. About four people who formed a band not to become famous or provide fresh soundtracks for TV ads, but because they wanted to write great songs, to make music with real honesty and passion.We were trying to say that there is an alternative. that you can try to be catchy without being slick and you can be uplifting without being pompous. Because we're sometimes playing quieter stuff, it's hard to sound like we're trying to change things, but we wanted to be a reaction against soulless rubbish.It seems quite a few of us were ready for this alternative.
Maleena's debut EP, 'Maleena', was a collection of direct, soulful, utterly beautiful songs stripped right back to expose the raw emotion underneath. Maleena grew up in KL, Zulfiqhar, Hilmie, Dekwan studied in Uniten, Bangi. They met in the end-2008 through Facebook, and quickly became friends. Maleena began writing her own songs and Zulfiqhar liked what he heard, and joined in on drum. Hilmi was so keen to be part of it that he played bass and Dekwan played lead guitar . All four shared a passion for music, and a quiet determination to be as good as they possibly could be. They rehearsed almost every night: .Anywhere we could find to play.We were determined to do it, from the start.
They recorded a three-track EP and pressed 100 copies, which got them a gig at the SOHO, KL, plus they were given the opportunity to include one of their three-track EP titled 'Mimpi' in the Indonesia Malaysia indie-band compilation track.It's been all on our own terms.We have 100 per cent control over any aspect of whatever we do, and that's really important to who we are and the music we make!:))
