Ash was going through a local newspaper called Pancaindera when he came across this interesting last name of an Indonesian singer. When he asked around he couldn't get the exact name as he had forgotten what it is but it turned out it was the name of their favourite band's (Sheila On 7) guitarist.
So what do you guys do on a normal basis?
After 2 diplomas Ash is doing his third one in audio engineering, Boy works at a local hotel, Wan works at a local restaurant while Ajee is back for a while from training as a pilot
What are you guys up to now?
Our first album. We've been in and out of the studio working on our first baby, so do check it out when it comes out.
I see your myspace account has no songs. Why?
Like we said, we're working on our album so untill then, our songs will be up and running. It wouldn't be a surprise if we had all our songs on myspace or our amp website now would it?.
What do you guys listen to?
Alot of local bands like Flop Poppy, Spider, M Nasir, The Muffins, OAG, Bau, Sofaz, even independent local bands like Couple, Hujan, Lucy In The Loo, Cloudburst, Prana, Indonesian bands like Sheila On 7, Dewa, Padi, Ari Lasso, Slank, Gigi, Nidji and international bands like Coldplay, Mew, The Strokes, The All American Rejects, The Used, Fall Out Boy, Radiohead, Muse, Jack's Mannequin, Jets and so on and so forth. The list goes on and on.
Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to everyone reading this?
Yeah. Keep supporting your local bands. Just by going to their shows and buying their album, it would really mean alot to them.
Oh, and don't forget to check out our album. Coming soon to a record store near you.
Give peace to the middle east!.
Bio
Sakti means magic in Malay. Magic, because music has always had a supernatural effect on us. And we, in turn try to reflect that in our music.
There are five of us Ashraf (Ash) on vocals & guitar, Amirin Rasydan (Boy) also on guitar, Wan Abdul Rahim (Wan) on bass, Farah Hanim (Hanim)on keyboard and Ahmad Nazree (Ajee) on drums and we share a passion for pop rock.
Out of this love and frequent jamming, Sakti was born in late 2001. In the beginning, it was Ash and Boy, classmates at a college in KL who initiated the move to form a band. The were joined by Wan, their senior, who played guitar as a hobby. Afterwards, Ajee a drummer from the band, Asma & The Holograms, joined the group followed by the fifth member Hanim, a graduate in International Business from Monash University.
It has been four years of us remaining below the radar and we think the time has come for them to make known their brand of music which is a mix of Flop Poppy / Sheila On 7 and Mogwai.
Our songs are expressions of love, frustration, joy and happiness, put to a very infectious and catchy melody. We hope to be able to relate to our audience and in so doing, entertain them.
