We're in various stages of undress. There ARE five of us, you know.
That isn't very hip hop. Do you feel that is significant to the image your music conveys or are you relying purely on the music to get your message across?
What is hip hop to you?
Why are you asking me questions? all bands are image-oriented to some extent. Explain yours.
Our image is one of no image. We're visually malleable. But the sound remains concrete.
do you feel your music will be accessible to those who don't normally have the same playlists as yours?
We feel that people who aren't normally inclined to hip hop music will want to give us a listen. Because we're not normally inclined to hip hop music, either.
I am in an ice cream parlour. What flavour is TRS?
Thick french vanilla with massive strawberry chunks. We ghetto like that.
In various stages of undress?
Yes.
How much does city life here in KL influence the music?
Very much. Most of us have lived nowhere else but in urban areas. KL is our common denominator, with each other and to our listeners. People who live here will get our references, and people who don't will get a glimpse of a KL-ite's warped worldview.
If you could add any other rapper dead or alive to TRS to make a yummy sextet, would you do it and who would it be?
We'd add another DJ. Premier, to be precise. But it could never work. We'd die of multiple orgasms.
Worst stage gimmick ever. Do you think hip hop is being misrepresented by the media or certain cultures (posers)?
Yes. Next question.
So is TRS trying to change that perception?
No. We just want to make music.
So tell me about your upcoming album, The Time Has Scum. What is the most fun song on it and why?
"Bakdatang". We had a lot of fun doing a Malay track, and we got to do it with 3 guest emcees who excel at Malay rhymes: Sapphire of 5FortyII, NBE and the incomparable Spit of Malaysian hip hop legends Naughtius Maximus. We think the fun we had making the song will show in the track as well.
Do you feel with the indie rock scene so strong here in KL that there will be room for a serious threat from TRS?
We'll make room. We're here to threaten everything and everyone.
