well, because thats what i want to be. the best, the ultimate. I had to change up the spelling because its in line with TTC's philosophy of hip hop with a local twist to it (thats how you would speel ultimate if it was a Malay word). so yeah, I'm Altimet, the best at this point in time. later on, there'll be another Altimet. when the local urban scene progresses base on what we've achieved or are achieving today. He/ they will stand on my/our shoulders, just as I/we are standing on the shoulders of the people that came before us.
What's up with TTC?
The Teh Tarik Crew.. Certain members of the crew feel like they cannot multi-task. Like they cant do their indivudual thing and TTC at the same time. I am not one of those members. I believe I can do my solo album, and develop my businesses AND still keep TTC high on my priorities list. If I need/have to do it, I will. If I gotta work 16 hour days to get what I want, I will. So my situation with them is, they should let me know when TTC becomes high on their list of priorities, then we can make some music again. Its always high on my list, cos everyhting I'm doing now has branched out directly or otherwise from my experience with TTC. They, along with Ahli Fiqir are my musical family. I'll never turn my back on these 7 people. so much respect to TTC, call me when you're ready.
Whats up with your album?
My album is titled First Among Equals. that means I think we all have the same potential to be great emcees, but because of the amount of effort I've put in, I'm the best for now. not the best of all time, just for now. its the truth, haha! I'm recording songs still, not too sure how many will make it on the album, I've set very high standards for myself and for my work so some songs aren't gonna get recorded cos they're not up to par, and some wotn make the cut due to the bar being raised. I'm looking at a mid 2007 release. With contributions from Bedsty, Funktionz, Illegal, Qumran, Joe FLizzow, Mizznina, DJ Fuzz, etc.
Will this be your only album?
I dont know. I'll either do just one or three. I started out thinking that it's gonna be my one album, because I was getting bored of competing with myself and a select few emcees. There was no real challenge at the time, I felt. but now i'm not so sure. Maybe thats the wrong way to look at things, cos theres way too many sub-par rappers over here. Plus, there's people like BedSty who keep making great beats that make me want to write more songs, so I dont know. I'll keep you guys posted.
Whos the select few emcees?
Me, Joe Flizzow, Emcee David and Words Manifest. These are the Malaysian emcees, everybody else are rappers. These 4 make me want to write better rhymes, have better flows and better deliveries. so much respect to them.
Why is your album taking so damn long to come out?
Because i make pasta, not instant noodles type of albums, right? Actually all the my personal vocal work is done, I'm just waiting on a couple guests to come throught and lay their vocals down.
What are you working on in the meantime?
There's a free, downloadable mixtape prevew to the album in the works, and I'm writing my next album. for real.
Bio
Altimet is the Malaysian Emcee’s Emcee. he is also an acclaimed producer, DJ, songwriter, record label owner and, and most importantly, an entrepreneur.
His career started with the Teh Tarik Crew, who released an EP, 2 albums and a compilation, all independently.
Based on his work with TTC, he was recruited to help make Ahli Fiqir a success, as A&R manager for Powder Records. Their debut album is the most commercially successful debut album for a hiphop act in Malaysia, and together Altimet and AF won the 2006 APM award for Best Album by a Singapore Act.
Currently Altimet is working on his solo project titled ’First Among Equals’, due out in 2007. the single and video titled ’She’/’Sayang, Sayang’ featuring Mawar Berduri is out now.
